Introduction
Alison Colville-Hyde, a qualified Veterinary nurse with a wealth of experience in keeping chickens is now tutoring courses in all aspects of Chicken keeping.
The courses are both factual and informative, covering some history, essential needs for chickens, common conditions and treatments plus frequently asked questions. Alison’s experience of working in animal health (disease control and welfare) as well as managing large scale organic chicken production across the West Country and currently working as a Field Services Manager for St David’s Poultry Team means that the content of these sessions are filled with invaluable advice.
She has also successfully bred, hatched and reared her own chickens. These chickens have been exhibited with success at poultry shows, and she currently keeps a small flock of Indian Game chickens, therefore knows the joy of poultry keeping.
Alison will be available to offer expert advice on what would be of benefit to your chickens.

These are fun chicken keeping classes for beginners, run from our character, country cottage near Tiverton, in the heart Devon.
This course is limited to 8 persons. You will take a useful set of notes home with you as well as leaving understanding how to care properly and confidently with your hens and the full requirements of small scale poultry keeping. All aspects of husbandry, health and handling will be taught and shown. Housing, nutrition, sourcing birds, hygiene, eggs and many more topics are covered.
You will get the chance to handle birds, clip wings and how to treat for common health problems, plus, where possible we will try to have chicks on hand for some attention too.

This course is aimed at the seasoned poultry keeper who wishes to arm themselves with a deeper knowledge of the domestic fowl and how to get the most out of their flock. It can be applied to rare breeds, hybrids and meat birds. It is based on the principles of best management practice and how to avoid disease.
